You just finished an interview. It went well — you think. Now what?

Most people do nothing. They go home, refresh their email obsessively for a few days, and hope for the best. But here's the thing: a simple thank you email can be the difference between getting the job and getting ghosted.

Why Bother With a Thank You Email?

According to a survey by TopResume, 68% of hiring managers say a thank you note influences their decision. And yet, only about 25% of candidates actually send one.

That means sending a thank you email instantly puts you ahead of 75% of other candidates. It takes 5 minutes. That's a pretty good return on investment.

We Made It Easy

We just launched free thank you email templates in our Career Hub. No sign-up required. Just copy, paste, customize, and send.

We included two versions:

1. Standard Thank You Email

The full version with room to reference something specific from your interview, express enthusiasm, and reinforce why you're a good fit. This is what you want to send when you have time to do it right.

2. Quick Version

Sometimes you're applying to multiple jobs and don't have time to write a novel. The quick version is short, professional, and gets the job done in under a minute.

When to Send It

Within 24 hours. Same day is ideal — it shows you're organized and genuinely interested. The next morning is fine. Any longer than that and you've probably missed your window.

Pro tip: If you interviewed with multiple people, send individual (slightly different) emails to each. Don't just copy-paste the same thing.

What to Include

A good thank you email has four parts:

  1. Thanks — Acknowledge their time
  2. Something specific — Reference a topic from the interview to show you were paying attention
  3. Enthusiasm — Briefly reinforce your interest in the role
  4. Next steps — Offer to provide additional info if needed

That's it. Don't write an essay. Don't attach your resume again (they have it). Just be professional and genuine.
